SWEP Communique - Requests for Clinical Advisor

29 March 2017

Dear Prescribers,

RE: Requests for Clinical Advisor's to validate scripts

Over recent times we have noticed an increase in the number of scripts that are being submitted with a request for Clinical Advisor's (CAs) to validate the script. At present we can receive 4-5 per day that require validation.

The role of the CAs within SWEP is to provide expert advice on various assistive technology categories and to act as an escalation point for trouble shooting. The role of CAs in validating scripts was really intended to be for rural or private / solo practitioners who did not have access to senior support or a higher credentialed prescriber. The script validation process provides an additional layer of support for these particular prescribers whilst still allowing them to meet client needs.

Going forward if scripts require validation, then in the first instance you must seek this support and validation from within your organisation - such as from your supervisor, mentor or a higher credentialed prescriber. SWEP may return your script requesting this occur prior to processing.

Our CAs are employed on a contract / per hour basis so utilising CAs to undertake a validation review costs both time and money and we want to ensure that scripts are processed as quickly as possible and all resources are used as effectively as possible.

Kind regards,

Donna Markham
Chief Allied Health Officer
