31 July 2017

SWEP Prescriber Communique - The Framework July 2017

Dear Prescribers,
We are very excited to be launching the revised SWEP Prescriber Registration and Credentialing Framework - The Framework.

For the video launch of our new Framework and associated documentation please click on the following link; SWEP Framework Overview Video

The revised Framework includes the following;

  • Process for registering as an inexperienced prescriber
  • Process and alternative pathways for prescribers to upgrade, re-credential, or register as an experienced prescriber
  • Inclusion of a skills recognition pathway based on a CPD portfolio allowing prescribers to upgrade or re-credential
  • The role of competency based education (this includes the high-quality education available through Central Queensland University, as well as a pathway for the endorsement of alternative education)
  • Introduction of a White Prescriber level (this includes Administration staff, Allied Health Assistant staff and Respiratory Scientists / Nurses)
  • A change of the re-credentialing period from 3 years to 5 years
A document providing a high-level overview of The Framework and the associated documentation can be found on the SWEP website in the Overview Document.

The full suite of documents can be found at https://swep.bhs.org.au/registration-and-credentialing-framework.php.

We recognise that SWEP is leading the way within the industry for implementing such robust frameworks and standards. We acknowledge this is new territory and may need to make changes along the way and as the revised framework is rolled out. We welcome your feedback and comments to swepcaho@bhs.org.au.

Kind regards,
Donna Markham
SWEP Chief Allied Health Officer
