SWEP Database & Prescriber Responsibilities - Prescriber Communique #3

29 June 2018

The new SWEP database & Prescriber Responsibilities

New Database
SWEP have been communicating regularly with our prescribers about our new database/Prescriber portal, which will go live Monday 2nd July 2018. The new service will allow us to streamline our processes and create a more user friendly Portal for our Prescribers and staff.

All Prescribers will receive an automated email on Sunday 1st July 2018. This will include your new user name and password to enable you to log into the new Portal from Monday 2nd July for all new applications.

There are some important changes that you will notice and need to be aware of;
  • We have reviewed and updated all prescription forms, including the urgency / risk rating rules
  • All scripts across the various AT categories are now consistent, based on current practice and include the most up to date information
  • Some data will be auto populated in the script for a more streamlined and efficient process for prescribers
  • We have incorporated and built in all necessary information into the scripts so Clinical Justification Supplements or additional information is no longer required  (e.g. for NDIS prescriptions)
  • Transfer of applications - to transfer an application to another Prescriber the new Prescriber will need to have the appropriate credentialing levels for that script
  • Prescribers will no longer need to choose from Pick List codes but will be able to choose your equipment by item and category with a drop down list and autofill options
  • Prescribers will need to ensure they select the appropriate items for their clients, as SWEP staff are not able to make changes to the Prescription forms once you have submitted it. In the event of errors the script will be returned to the prescriber for amendments
Any queries related to the new database please contact SWEP.

Prescriber Responsibilities and Script Outcomes
As a registered prescriber with SWEP, it is the expectation that prescribers take full accountability for the outcome of their prescription. In cases where a prescription has been unsuccessful or ' failed " , and a thorough review demonstrates that this is due to negligence, misconduct or incompetence related to the assessment and/or clinical decision making of the prescriber, SWEP will pursue the prescriber to take responsibility (including financial) for resolving the error.
If you have any queries in relation to Prescriber responsibilities you can contact Donna Markham, SWEP Chief Allied Health Officer via email at swepcaho@bhs.org.au
