SWEP Communique - NDIS Application Process

Over the past few days, SWEP has received many calls from our consumers and their families and our Assistive Technology (AT) Practitioners wishing to clarify the process for submitting AT requests for NDIS participants. Many callers have received conflicting advice from NDIS Agency staff, Support Co-ordinators and Local Area Co-ordinators whereby they have been told that SWEP is no longer involved in the NDIS AT process.

SWEP have subsequently made contact with the NDIS National AT team who has confirmed with the Victorian State Manager today that there have been NO changes to SWEP's involvement in this space and SWEP's current arrangement with the NDIA remains unchanged as detailed below:

All complexity level 3 & 4 AT applications are required to be submitted to SWEP via the SWEP Database (Service Now) for Quality Assurance checks to be undertaken. In extenuating circumstances only,  where there is genuine urgency, a Planner may elect to bypass SWEP and submit the applications directly to the Planner where the Planner has confidence in the AT Practitioner's level of expertise in that particular area. It is anticipated though that these instances are exceptions to the rule. 

Further feedback that we have received that SWEP is delaying lodgement of applications to the Agency is incorrect. SWEP is currently processing ALL NDIS applications within the agreed 5 business day KPI and submitting complete applications to the Agency within this timeframe for a funding decision to be made.
