SWEP Communique - Home Modifications process changes

13 September 2019

Following on from our previous communique SWEP update regarding review of the Home Modifications Panel, SWEP would like to update you on the current requirements for applying for funding assistance through the Victorian Aids & Equipment Program (VA&EP) for the home modifications subsidy.

As of July 1 2019, consumers are able to select their preferred registered builder/tradesperson.  SWEP may check their Victoria Building Authority (VBA) registration.

When advised by SWEP that funding is imminent you will need:
  • To submit one quote if the home modification/s is less than $10,000 and two quotes for home modification/s over $10,001.  The homeowner must acknowledge the proposed modification by signing the quotation/s and the drawings/scope of works.
  • The builder or tradesperson to determine if the modifications are considered structural or non-structural and commit to the regulatory requirements in Victoria.
  • You will be required to provide SWEP with a copy of a recent Council Rates Notice to confirm ownership of the home/property for any home modifications over $1,000.

SWEP are updating our AT Practitioner Manuals and other resources to reflect the changes, which will be located on the SWEP website shortly.

If you have any queries or feedback please contact Narelle Harrison Narelle.Harrison@bhs.org.au
