SWEP - Stroller Update

22 August 2016

The State-wide Equipment Program forwarded a communique to all prescribers and suppliers on the 2nd June 2016 stating that disability strollers on the Australian market may not be compliant to mandatory Australian Standards, AS/NZS 2088:2000 (Prams and Strollers - Safety Requirement).

At this stage, all compliance requirements are still to be confirmed by suppliers and manufacturers.

Once compliance is received for any type of disability stroller, this will be circulated to all prescribers and posted on our website.

SWEP is also working very closely with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to determine if disability strollers are exempt from current legislation as long as they are recognised by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Any stroller application that was received prior to the 2nd June 2016, has a status of incomplete until compliance is received for that particular prescribed stroller - this will not affect the position of the application on the web-site.

Any further enquiries should be directed to Jody Nicholson, Manager Aids & Equipment Children, jodyn@bhs.org.au
