SWEP Communique - Beds, Mattresses and Bed Accessories

From November 1 Bedsticks will be moved to
Red category. This is in recognition of the complexity of prescribing bedsticks
given the number of the adverse events which have occurred across the country where
clients have either been injured or have died.
Basic foam mattresses do not attract a
subsidy as they are not considered pressure care. This means that a basic foam
mattress must be self-funded. We are aware that this has been incorrectly
applied by some of our staff, so the rule will be enforced for any new
applications received from November 1.
Pressure care mattresses (as clinically
justified) continue to be funded through the usual pressure-care subsidy.
