Applying for Domiciliary Oxygen

How do I apply?

You need to be assessed by a Consultant Physician specialising in respiratory (thoracic) medicine, cardiology, or oncology. They will ask you to undertake some tests to determine whether you will benefit from supplementary oxygen and that your results comply with the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) Guidelines.

This is a list of some of the tests that you may be required to do:

  •          Arterial Blood Gases (ABG)
  •          6 Minute Walk Test
  •          Lung Function Testing
  •          Sleep Studies
  •          Pulse Oximetry

Depending on test results, the specialist will determine what sort of oxygen equipment you need and how often you will need to use it. The health professional/AT Practitioner will apply for the AT item(s) required and complete the online application that is relevant to the Domiciliary Program on your behalf.

What happens after the assessment is done?

They will submit your Oxygen Application Form to SWEP electronically on your behalf. Your application may be reviewed by a SWEP appointed Clinical Advisor for approval by SWEP.

What happens after the application has been processed?

Once your application has been processed, SWEP will contact you to let you know what happens next. If funds are not available immediately the application may need to go on a waiting list.
