SWEP Communique - Continence Aids Program update

28 August 2024

Dear Practitioner,

As current demand for the Continence Aids program continues to grow, SWEP is committed to ensuring funding is available to current consumers, on an ongoing basis, up to the maximum subsidy of $1,200 per annum.  Applications for new consumers are reviewed in line with the Victorian Aids & Equipment Program (VA&EP) Priority of Access Guidelines.  The information you enter on your application under the Implications of Non-Provision is used to help us determine the urgency of need for your consumer.

To assist SWEP in managing demand:
  • when applying for funding for new consumers, please let your consumer know that applications are triaged given we have a capped budget, so that they are aware of a potential wait for funding
  • notify SWEP of any consumers who are no longer eligible for support (i.e. moved into residential aged care or are now in receipt of a Commonwealth Government Homecare Package level 3 & 4)
  • Washable Items - as per the Victorian Aids & Equipment Program Guidelines
All washable products are funded as a one-off order only (in exceptional circumstances additional items may be supplied where a recommendation is received from a SWEP registered practitioner who can provide clinical justification for the need for additional washable items). In addition, our Continence Practitioner Manual provides recommended quantities for washable products.
  • Mattress & pillow protectors, doona covers and floor mats x 2
  • Bed pads & chair pads x 3
  • Washable briefs x 8
  • Washable insert pads x 10
Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support to our consumers.   If you have any queries or concerns regarding this update, please contact our Quality & Leadership Support Officer:  swep@gh.org.au

Regards
SWEP Management
