The
Statewide Equipment Program (SWEP) is committed to providing consumers with
access to a range of assistive technology items that are evidence based and
suitable for various environments and presenting scenarios.
In
response to feedback and a review of these items, we would like to clarify that
SWEP practitioners are able to request the following items:
Memory foam mattresses
- Will be funded
from the pressure care subsidy
- Must be for use
on a hospital style bed that meets VA&EP requirements
- Must profile
fully with a minimum 3 functions bed
- Must have a
waterproof cover included in the quote to allow for reissue
- Review from a
clinical advisor will be required if the mattress does not meet the regular
standards that we expect for mattresses
- Please use
picklist code B3.1
Pressure
reducing mattress overlays
- Will be funded
from the pressure care subsidy
- This includes
alternating air overlays, medical grade sheepskin and overlays made from memory
foam or other materials
- Must be
requested for the purpose of managing pressure care risks
- SWEP expects
high levels of clinical reasoning to determine that the product requested is
best suited to the consumer and their presenting pressure care situation
- Mattress
overlays (unless alternating air) will not be reissued so they do not need to
be purchased with a waterproof cover
- Please use
picklist code B2.7 for medical grade sheepskins and B3.3 for all other overlays
Transfers: Satin sheet moving systems
- Examples include
Wonder Sheets or Immedia SatinSheet system
- Must be
requested for the purpose of eliminating the need for other transfer aids,
increasing transfer independence and/or reducing manual handling risks
- Up to two sheets
can be requested
- Regular satin
sheets will continue to be considered regular household items and will not be
funded
