CLARIFICATION REGARDING THE PROCESS OF PROCURING ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR VICTORIA NORTH AREA NDIS PARTICIPANTS

14 December 2016

The State-wide Equipment Program (SWEP) and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) have established a Working Arrangement for participants who have transitioned to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Victoria and are requiring Assistive Technology (AT).

The Working Arrangement outlines the provision of all AT needs for NDIS participants and covers State and Territory Government AT provider schemes, which in Victoria is SWEP.

SWEP Email Communication Issues due to blacklisting.

Dear Prescribers,
 
Unfortunately last week the Ballarat Health Services and SWEP email domains were blacklisted, impairing our ability to communicate with other external email servers. 

RCH Advice regarding trampolines

Trampolines are not suitable for children under 6 years of age. They should be considered sports equipment, not a toy.  Use enclosed trampoline nets to avoid falls from trampolines. This information is sourced from the Royal Childrens Hospital website

SWEP Communique Prescriber - Credentialing Framework changes

The main changes can be found on Page 2 to Page 4, and are summarised in Appendix 3.
In short all new prescribers must attend either a full or half day induction session depending on their discipline. SWEP will subsidise the cost for new graduates.

From November 1 Bedsticks will be moved to Red category. This is in recognition of the complexity of prescribing bedsticks given the number of the adverse events which have occurred across the country where clients have either been injured or have died.

Product Recall for product correction - Rehab Assist C-Series ceiling hoists

20 September 2016
The Therapeutic Goods Administration has issued a recall notice for Rehab Assist C-Series ceiling hoists. The recall is for product correction of some carry bars used with the ceiling hoists, due to the potential for a plastic attachment swivel to break.

Stroller Update

The State-wide Equipment Program (SWEP) has received correspondence in relation to the regulation of special-needs strollers from the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC).

CQU-SWEP ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY CPD PROGRAM ADVANCED SPECIALISED TRANSFERS EDUCATION

This one day workshop is designed for Occupational Therapists & Physiotherapists who wish to further their knowledge & skills with regards to hoists, slings & transfers for people with disabilities. This workshop will be presented by Sarah Macneil & Lindy Johnson.

You may not be aware that SWEP offers assistance to all SWEP registered Prescribers in the form of a Clinical Advisors Panel. The Oxygen Clinical Advisors Panel has been working on developing a guide for the Oxygen Program that will assist you in completing the application process for your clients.

Product recall for product correction - Molift Air ceiling hoist

30 August 2016

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has issued a recall notice for Molift Air ceiling hoists distributed between May 2013 and January 2016.

The supplier, Patient Handling, in consultation with the TGA, is undertaking a recall for product correction.

SWEP Communique - Prescriber Website Update

Continence Product Changes - New SWEP Catalogue 2016 - Following a rigorous tender process in May 2016, SWEP's continence product catalogue was updated. As part of the change process a number of continence items previously available on contract are no longer available.
